I interviewed several companies for our remodeling project. Rich distinguished himself at our initial bid appointment because he asked thoughtful questions and made some very good suggestions. I incorporate most of his ideas and recommendations and I have no regrets. Once the remodel started I was very overwhelmed by all the decisions that needed to be made. An interior decorator was not within my budget and the Melchiors provided an alternative that was not available from the other contractors that I interviewed. In 2008, we inherited a 5,700 sq. ft. rambler with a daylight basement view home built in 1959, which had no updates. Everything needed to be redone…roof, windows, plumbing, electrical, appliances, heating system…and we had no idea where to begin or who to call. That’s when we met Rich Melchior at a Home Show. From that day forward, we were heading in the right direction with good guidance. Rich presented us with many design options from which to decide; one in particular was the exterior entry. I no longer recognize the once tiny little and cramped home that I lived in, which was in much need of a remodel and a true embarrassment to me. Now it’s a larger, beautiful craftsman style cottage and I’m so proud this home belongs to me. I have had so many compliments and my friends are amazed at how much it has changed. Rich designed an addition to be built to my existing 1906 home. Both Rich and Gloria managed to make it all flow together beautifully so it ended up looking like a newly constructed home. I had told Rich that I had too much stuff and no place to store it and he designed it to be more spacious, functional and practical with lots of room for storage. Rich designed a huge 2 car garage with a master bedroom suite above that tied into my existing 1906 home that had been updated back in the late 50’s. He worked carefully with me to achieve all my requests and also came up with some very interesting details throughout. He listened to my needs and we changed the plans several times before we finalized on a blueprint to submit for permit. He also took care of all the details getting the plans into the building department for the permit. I had asked for a 5-star hotel style master bathroom and someone recently mentioned to me that my master bedroom suite reminded them of a high class hotel room. I am so happy that Rich listened to my request and designed a retreat for me, my own sanctuary where I can relax and unwind. Rich was very consistent in his efforts to save me money and innovatively came up with a unique way to tie in the new addition to the existing structure without going through a major foundation tie in that would have cost me a fortune. I love all the details including the interesting angles and varying ceiling heights. Rich managed to keep the integrity of my existing cottage style house while updating its looks and giving it great curb appeal. I now have a beautiful home that I truly love coming home to. Gloria is incredible, a highly skilled and experienced interior designer. She knows her styles, patterns and colors but most of all, she listens to what you want and works hard to please her client so they are happy with the outcome.
